Cursor now lets you build from both your phone and the web.

Let's take a look:

How Cursor Background Agents work

  • Create multiple parallel tasks

  • You can start and view your tasks on phone, browser or directly in Cursor

  • The agent works on a separate branch, runs commands automatically

  • Create PR's, Review them with Cursors Bugbot on Github

  • Checkout the branch and work on a fix or feature directly in Cursor

How to enable Cursor Background Agents

  1. Go into Cursor Settings (or cursor .com/dashboard) and click "Background Agents"

  2. Connect your GitHub account

  3. Select a repo and branch

  4. Choose your model (only max models are allowed)

How to use Web based Cursor Agents

  1. Open your browser cursor .com/agents

  2. Add a shortcut to your home screen

  3. Start building

In Cursor Code Editor

  • Ctrl/CMD + E to spawn Background Agents,

  • send follow-ups or “take over” mid-run.

  • Environment: You can customize Containers via .cursor/environment.json

Manage your Tasklist

  • You can sort and filter your tasklist visually.

  • View Modes: List and Kanban

Cursor for Web & Phone Review

The Good:

  • The UI/UX feels good and responds fast (even its not a full native app).

  • There are a lot of hidden goodies which lets you manage a lot of stuff outside of Cursor.

  • You can choose from all your repos on github and start building right away.

  • If you get bored and have some ideas around just open your phone and start some tasks and work on them later when you back on desktop.

  • Max models are supported which give you the full context window and better results.

The Not so good:

  • Background Agents are another monster to handle. You deal with a lot of merge conflicts if you doing it wrong and it takes more time to cleanup the mess later.

  • You don't have any prompt templates or cant use file references which makes specific file changes harder.

  • Watch your costs. Background Agents can cause additional costs.

  • No "visual" preview. You still end up in GitHub with PRs and you need to add Vercel/Netlify deployments to preview your results (if you work on something visually).

FAQ's

  • Open your browser and go to: cursor .com/agents (Note: not available in the App Store)

  • GitHub Connection Issues: I experience the same. Try again or check if it's already connected

  • Only Max Mode is allowed (which gives you the full context window)
